EISENTUBE: The Mechanical Master of Montage

Combining the montage of Sergei Eisenstein with the participatory media of today, EISENTUBE takes in YouTube videos and sends back to YouTube a metric montage with the videos mechanically resliced together. I developed EISENTUBE at Cornell last semester for ART 372 with Kelly Dobson.

For example, let’s say you wanted to combine footage of kittens with a twister, and throw in some Pokemon just for fun. Then you’d have “Kitten Twister”:

Or, you say, how about mixing a biker’s commute with a monster truck:

One of my favorites, made during a test when I didn’t have sound enabled, combines National Geographic footage of a leopard in its natural habitat with the confessions of a coquettish female human lounging on a leopard-skin couch:

Note that six seconds was *not* the amount of time it took to shoot, develop, scan, and piece together this epic…

[EDIT: it looks like YouTube sometimes cuts off the climactic ending! You’ve got better odds of seeing the final shot on the main YouTube’s page. Or, download a high-res version here.]
